On Gülzar-i Vefa – Music of the Ottoman Court, Lâmekân Ensemble gathers some of the finest young virtuoso’s specialized in Ottoman music. Focusing on late 18th Century and 19th Century vocal and instrumental repertoires, the ensemble revisits the musical centers – mekanlar – of old Istanbul, where urban classical music was expressed through different cultural spheres. Thus, Lâmekân Ensemble takes the listener to a chronological journey from the palace and the Sufi monasteries (mevlevihane) to the 19th Century taverns, playing masterpieces by composers such as Numan Ağa, Arif Mehmed Ağa, Zekai Dede, Hamparsum, Osman Bey, Hacı Arif bey and Tatyos Efendi.
