On October 18th, we will present a new creation during the 18th edition of the Festival de Fès de la Culture Soufie et des Sagesses du Monde. Daud Khan Sadozai, Milad Mohammadi and Tristan Driessens will be accompanied by soprano and harpist Arianna Savall for a unifying cross-cultural dialogue.
With this line-up, Luthopia brings together three iconic lutes, each at the heart of a great tradition spanning centuries: the Afghan rabab, represented by master Daud Khan Sadozai; the tar, performed by Iranian virtuoso Milad Mohammadi; and the oud, played by the prolific Tristan Driessens. A concert featuring this trio takes as its starting point the balance between the performance of traditional pieces that live on in our collective memory and improvisation. Luthopia creates a space conducive to dialogue. We pay homage to tradition by being deeply rooted in it, while simultaneously revitalizing it through mutual listening and spontaneous creation. This is what makes each concert a unique event.
Luthopia is the result of numerous sessions during which we come together to refine our interactions and the balance of our instruments. Through our friendship, we aim to convey an underlying message of communion, mutual respect, poetry, and hope—as the project’s name suggests.
